Grayslake School Earns National Blue Ribbon Award

Saint Gilbert Catholic School has been selected as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School.

GRAYSLAKE, IL – A Grayslake school is among 342 schools nationwide to be selected as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. Saint Gilbert Catholic School, at 231 E. Belvidere Road, was selected as an exemplary high-performing school as part of the National Blue Ribbon Program's 2017 winners. Exemplary high-performing schools have their state’s highest high school graduation rates and the highest achieving students – those in the top 15 percent – in English and mathematics, measured by state assessments, according to a news release.


The local school was among six Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools to be named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. Holy Family Catholic Academy in Inverness, St. Edwards School in Chicago, St. Josaphat School in Chicago, St. Joseph Catholic School in Libertyville and St. Joseph School in Wilmette have also been recognized this year by the U.S. Department of Education with Blue Ribbon Awards.

In total, there were 21 schools in city of Chicago and Chicago suburbs selected as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2017.

The Department will honor 292 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 6 to 7 in Washington, D.C. In its 35-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on some 8,500 schools.
