Coroner IDs Teen Killed After Being Hit By Truck

GRAYSLAKE, IL — A Grayslake teen who was killed after being hit by a truck has been identified as Victoria Piela, 18, authorities said.

The collision happened at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Washington Street and Atkinson Road. A Ford Escape and Ford F-150 with an attached trailer crashed and the F-150 went off the road, hitting Piela, according to a press release from the Grayslake Police Department.

Piela was standing near the southeast corner of the intersection at the time of the crash, police said. She was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and later pronounced dead.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show she died from blunt force injuries as a result of a crash. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
