Coroner IDs Grayslake Woman Killed in 2-Car Crash

The collision happened Saturday afternoon.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The 70-year-old Grayslake woman killed in a two-vehicle crash on Route 45 in Warren Township over the weekend has been identified as Katherine Lewis, police said. A preliminary investigation shows a 2003 Toyota Corolla, driven by Lewis, was heading south on Route 45 north of West Cottage Avenue when a 2011 Kia Soul crossed the centerline and hit the Toyota head on Saturday afternoon. Lewis was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, according authorities.

The driver of the Kia Soul, a 17-year-old Round Lake Beach boy, was also take to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to police.

“(A) review of the case with the State’s Attorney’s Office will occur when the investigation is complete,” Sgt. Christopher Covelli, spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, told Patch.

Preliminary autopsy results show Lewis died “as a result of multiple traumatic injuries due to the crash,” Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
