Green Oaks Man With History Of Battery Charges Faces New Charge
Riley Markus is accused of spitting at the security officer and throwing a hospital gown at a nurse while at the Libertyville hospital.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Green Oaks man, who has been charged with battery in the past, faces a recent aggravated battery charge for allegations he spit at a security guard and threw a medical gown at a nurse at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville earlier this month.
Riley Markus, 29, of the 1900 block of Kenton Lane, remains behind bars at the Lake County Jail following his arrest on Jan. 10. He is being held on a $100,000 bail, and faces aggravated battery to a peace officer and aggravated battery to a nurse charges.
Authorities were first called to Condell, 801 S. Milwaukee Ave., at about 4 p.m. on Jan. 9 and found Markus, who was being restrained by security staff, according to a report from the Libertyville Police Department. Police say Markus threw a medical gown at a nurse, striking the nurse in the face, and then spat in a security officer's face who attempted to restrain him, according to the police report.

Markus has a history of violent behavior, according to police reports, and was charged in 2019 with battering a firefighter. According to a criminal complaint, Markus made contact of an "insulting or provoking nature" and spat on a North Chicago firefighter.
During that incident, he is also accused of hitting a woman. He pleaded guilty in that case and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 12 months probation. Markus was also charged with misdemeanor domestic battery in 2015 and 2017 and misdemeanor battery in 2019.

Over the past six years, he has also faced disorderly conduct, theft, driving under the influence and resisting and obstructing charges.
Markus is next expected in court in his most recent aggravated battery case on Feb. 8.
