Homeowner Spots Burglars With Her Bike, Scooters and Calls Police

One man has been charged in connection with the weekend burglary near Lake Villa while police are still searching for a second suspect.

LAKE VILLA, IL - A homeowner called police over the weekend after spotting two burglars in possession of her bicycle and two of her scoters after they allegedly stole the items from a shed on her property in unincorporated Lake Villa, authorities said Monday.

The homeowner was returning to her residence when she noticed the burglars near her home in the 25600 block of West Marshfield Road in unincorporated Lake Villa at about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the area at about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday and located one of the alleged burglars, Daniel Morales, 29, according to a news release.

Morales, of the 37000 block of North Piper Lane in unincorporated Lake Villa, was in possession of one of the stolen scooters and was taken into custody, police said. Morales, who is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $50,000 bail, has been charged with burglary, a class 2 felony; theft, a class A misdemeanor; and obstructing identification, a class A misdemeanor.

Morales is next expected in court on Tuesday.

The second burglar fled the area before sheriff’s office deputies arrived. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the burglary.
