How Much Snow Will Lake County Get?: Winter Weather Advisory Issued

Snow and strong winds could create slick roads and hazardous travel for Monday morning.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A winter weather advisory is in effect for McHenry County and much of northeastern Illinois, with snow, blowing snow and strong winds expected overnight Sunday into Monday.

The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, runs from 10 p.m. Sunday until 1 p.m. Monday.

Forecasters say 1 to 3 inches of snow is likely across the region, including McHenry County, with wind gusts up to 45 mph. Portions of McHenry and northwest Kane and Lake counties may see more than 3 inches, according to early Sunday reports. The advisory also covers DeKalb, La Salle, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, and northern Cook counties.

The combination of snow and blowing winds could reduce visibility and make travel hazardous, particularly during the Monday morning commute. Roads — especially bridges and overpasses — may be slick, and gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution. The latest road conditions can be checked at the Illinois Department of Transportation’s GettingAroundIllinois.com.

Officials also warn residents to be careful while walking outdoors, as sidewalks, stairs and driveways may become icy and slippery.
