Man, 80, Accused Of Fatally Shooting Neighbor Deemed Unfit For Trial
Ettore Lacchei of unincorporated Antioch is accused of shooting his neighbor, William Martys, following an argument over a leaf blower.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — An elderly man accused of fatally shooting his neighbor following an argument over a leaf blower has been deemed mentally unfit for trial.
Ettore Lacchei, 80, appeared for a hearing Tuesday in Lake County Circuit Court and has been remanded to the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services, according to the Lake County News-Sun.
A report by a psychologist found Lacchei had "paranoid and delusional" thought processes and that he believes he is being poisoned in the Lake County Jail, where he has been in custody since the April 12 shooting of his neighbor, William Martys, near Antioch, according to the article.

The psychologists's report also found Leacchei suffered from “major impairment of neuro-cognitive functioning."
According to authorities, Lacchei shot Martys, 59, in the head after he approached his neighbor, who was using a leaf blower in his yard in the 40700 block of North Black Oak Avenue in unincorporated Antioch, and began arguing with him, authorities said.

Martys was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Lacchei has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with Martys' shooting death.
