Man Gets 21 Years For Fatally Shooting Teen Who Stole His Car
Lynell Glover was sentenced Wednesday. He shot twin brothers Anthony and Jonathan Awad in December 2020.

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL — A Round Lake Beach man who fatally shot a 17-year-old boy and also shot and injured his twin brother has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Lake County Judge Mark Levitt handed down the 21-year sentence Wednesday, telling the courtroom he didn't believe there should be second chances when it comes to taking someone's life. A Lake County jury found Lynell Glover guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm earlier this year in connection with the December 2020 fatal shooting of Anthony Awad.
Authorities say Anthony and his twin brother, Jonathan, stole Glover's car days before the shooting on Dec. 30, 2020. Glover found the boys in his car on the side of Route 12 near Volo on Jan. 3, 2021, after the vehicle ran out of gas.

He chased them down, firing shots at them. Anthony Awad sustained three gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Jonathan Awad was shot in his leg and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to a news release from the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.
Glover appeared for a sentencing hearing Wednesday where assistant state's attorney Lauren Callinan read victim impact statements from the brother and father of Anthony and Jonathan Awad. They shared how much Glover "messed up their lives," and how much Anthony Awad meant to them.

Levitt Glover did not need to act as a vigilante by chasing down the teens and shooting them after they stole his car, according to a news release. He also said property should never be valued over life.
Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart said the premeditated attack should never have happened.
"Glover decided to take a life over his car being stolen days earlier, and nothing more. Our legal system and our common morality have always valued life over property. Mr. Glover’s premeditated vigilantism was condemned by our legal system and our community," Rinehart said in a statement.
