Murder Probe Underway After Man Found Dead On Driveway

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of William Martys, of unincorporated Antioch.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A homicide investigation is underway in Lake County after a 59-year-old man was found dead on his driveway Thursday evening near Antioch.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office was called to the home in the 40700 block of North Black Oak Avenue in unincorporated Antioch at about 7:35 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive man on a driveway.

Paramedics first at the scene began life-saving measures. The man, who has been identified as William Martys, 59, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Martys, who lives at the home on North Black Oak Avenue, was shot in the head, which preliminary results from an autopsy revealed as his cause of death, according to a news release.

The sheriff's office is investigating the death as a homicide "based on preliminary information," authorities said Friday. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force and the sheriff's office are investigating the death.
