Police Locate Vehicle In Fatal Hit And Run

The vehicle was found at a body shop in Antioch. Brett Beckett, 51, of Antioch, was killed in the incident over the weekend.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – The Lake County Sheriff's Office has tracked down the vehicle they believe was involved in a fatal hit and run crash over the weekend, authorities said Tuesday. A 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara turned up at an Antioch body shop and had "damage consistent with striking a pedestrian," according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities are speaking with the owners of the vehicle, which was seized and taken to a secure evidence storage facility, police said Tuesday. No one is currently in custody.

The vehicle allegedly struck 52-year-old Brett Beckett in the area of West Grass Lake Road and North Sunset Drive in Antioch Township at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. Authorities found Beckett lying on the north shoulder of Grass Lake Road with critical injuries after the driver fled the scene. Beckett, of Antioch, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
