School officials learned of a social media post threatening the safety of students and staff at a school referred to as "GMS" Friday morning

GRAYSLAKE, IL β€” Police do not believe a social media threat made Friday morning to a school referred to as "GMS" is credible. Regardless, authorities plan to have an increased presence at Grayslake Middle School and are on site at all District 46 schools Friday, school officials said.

The threat comes as multiple law enforcement agencies across the Chicago area are monitoring reports of a TikTok challenge that has encouraged students to threaten gun violence at their schools on Friday, Dec. 17.

School officials learned of a social media post threatening the safety of students and staff at a school referred to as "GMS." The initials of the school were listed along with multiple other schools identified with initials, according to D46.

"We continue to encourage any student to contact an adult at home or school if they see any other posts or information as soon as possible," according to a statement from D46.
