Round Lake Man Faces Charges Following Hostage Situation: Police

ROUND LAKE, IL β€” A 33-year-old man faces charges following a hostage situation, which lead to an officer-involved shooting last week in Round Lake.

Gerzin Ramirez-Perez, of the 700 block of North Park Road in Round Lake, has been charged with aggravated unlawful restraint and two counts of domestic battery, according to a news release form the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

Ramirez-Perez was taken to the hospital on Sept. 19 after he was shot by at least one police officer during a hostage situation in a basement apartment in the 700 block of North Park Road in Round Lake. Officers responded to the residence at about 6:35 p.m. and found a 33-year-old man holding a knife to the throat of a 30-year-old woman.

Two SWAT team members fired shots, hitting the man, and SWAT team members were able to get the woman away from the man's grip, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. On Monday, Ramirez-Perez was discharged from an area hospital and taken to the Lake County Jail where he is awaiting his initial court appearance.

The 30-year-old woman sustained minor injuries, was treated by paramedics at the scene and refused transport to the hospital.

The two officers involved in the shooting were also taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Authorities confiscated two knives from the scene, and the attack remains under investigation.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is also conducting an independent investigation into the shooting, which is required by state law when an officer or officers are involved in a shooting, according to the news release.
