2 Workers Taken to Hospital After Lightning Strike at Libertyville H.S.

The lightning strike happened Monday afternoon.

Two construction workers at Libertyville High School were taken to the hospital after they may have been struck indirectly by lightning Monday afternoon while working on the roof of the school, the Libertyville Review reports.

The roofers, who were both men in their 30s, were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center as a precautionary measure and were in good condition, according to the newspaper.

Officials do not believe the lightning hit the workers directly but instead struck the high school and traveled through the building, which in turn caused the injuries to the workers, Libertyville Fire Department chief Rich Carani told WGN News. The high school, located at 708 Park Avenue in Libertyville, was not damaged by the lightning.
