Search Continues for 4 Who Lured, Robbed Good Samaritan: Police

The four men faked car troubles to get a motorist to pull over in Volo in December, police said. They then stole cash and electronics.

LAKE COUNTY, IL -- Authorities are continuing to search for four men accused of pretending to have car troubles and then robbing a Good Samaritan, who stopped to help them, at gunpoint last month, police said this past week. A 48-year-old Island Lake man was heading south on North Fisher Road in Volo when he was flagged down by the group of men who were standing next to what appeared to be a broken down GMC pick-up at about 6:10 p.m. on Dec. 20, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. The man pulled over to see if he could help, police said.

As soon as he stopped, one of the men allegedly pointed a handgun at him and ordered him to get out of his car. The four men, one armed with the gun and one armed with a knife, then got into the man's car and stole cash and electronics, according to the news release. Afterward, they fled south from the scene.

The Island Lake man was not injured in the incident but he was "shaken up," Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli told Patch.

As of this past week, police are continuing to investigate the ruse, which happened in the 31600 block of North Fisher Road in Volo, Covelli wrote in an e-mail response to Patch. No one has been arrested in connection with the case.

The GMC pickup is described as a black, newer-model truck. The suspects are described as men of Hispanic descent. They were all wearing black-hooded sweatshirts at the time of the robbery.

Covelli said there have been no similar incidents reported since the Dec. 20 armed robbery.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects to call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 847-549-5200.

Following the incident, authorities are encouraging residents to call police to report a broken down vehicle and not to pull over to check on the motorist by yourself.
