SWALCO Hosts Household Chemical Waste Collection Sept. 17

Lake County residents can drop off aerosol products, fertilizers, herbicides, prescription medicine, household cleaners, and more

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) will hold a household chemical waste collection event on Sept. 17. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Lake Forest Municipal Services Center.

Residents are invited to drop off: aerosol products, antifreeze and motor oil, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs, furniture stripper and varnishes, gasoline and kerosene, household batteries, household cleaners, prescription and over-the-counter medicines, and oil-based paints and paint removers.

SWALCO will not accept: latex paint, DEA controlled substances, business wastes, farm chemicals, propane tanks, lead-acid and alkaline batteries, explosives, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, household electronics, or lead-acidic and alkaline batteries.

Not accepted materials include latex paint, DEA controlled substances, business wastes, farm chemicals, propane tanks, lead-acid and alkaline batteries, explosives, medical wastes, bulky asbestos-laded construction debris, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and household electronics.

SWALCO works hard to implement the Lake County Solid Waste Management Plan. They educate the public regarding implications of solid waste management options and disseminate information regarding techniques to reduce, reuse, and recycle the amount of solid waste generated in Lake County.
