The officer was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. She has been placed on paid administrative leave, Round Lake Chief of Police Michael Gillette said in an e-mail response.
βShe has never been involved in a similar event,β Gillette said.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is investigating any criminal wrongdoing, according to the Lake County News Sun. The task force was not releasing further details into the physical confrontation and what lead to the shooting.
βI canβt go into great detail on this yet, as we are still speaking with witnesses, first-responders, and those living in the neighborhood,β Covelli said.
Once the task force has completed its investigation, the Round Lake Police Department will conduct an internal investigation into the shooting.
"The internal investigation will seek to determine whether any departmental rules were violated," Gillete said.
No other suspects are being sought in connection with the incident and the βRound Lake community is safe,β Round Lake Police Chief Michael Gillette said.
Musson does have a history of violent behavior directed at police. In 2013, he was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer after he put a detective, who was responding to a possible drug trafficking report in Grayslake, in a headlock when the detective attempted to arrest him, according to the Daily Herald.
Three other people kicked and punched the detective and two backup deputies were also punched several times, according to the article. Musson was pepper sprayed and all four involved in the battery were arrested while three officers were treated at a hospital.
