Woman Who Shot Into Lake 'For Fun' Remains In Custody: Authorities
Kristy Shibli, of unincorporated Mundelein, faces a felony charge for firing a gun into Diamond Lake on July 3, police said.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 46-year-old Lake County woman accused of shooting into Diamond Lake and at a nearby beach "for fun" earlier this month remains in custody on $50,000 bail.
Kristy Shibli, of the 19200 block of West Fairview Drive in unincorporated Mundelein, is accused of shooting the gun from a dock in the 19300 block of West Forest Lane in unincorporated Mundelein at about 10 p.m. on July 3, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Boaters on Diamond Lake called to report that Shibli shot several rounds toward their boat, according to authorities. Six people were on board the boat at the time of the incident, and no one was hit by the gunfire.

"It was determined Shibli was firing into the lake for fun," authorities said in a news release. "It appears she believed the sound of fireworks being set off in the area would mask the sound of her gunfire."
According to court documents, Shibli is also accused of shooting toward the beach and endangering the "safety of several individuals at the beach."

Bail for Shibli has been set at $50,000, and as of Wednesday, she remained in custody at the Lake County Jail. She is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, which is a Class 4 felony, and is next expected in court on Friday.
Shibli's gun was seized, and state police are investigating whether she had a valid FOID card and concealed carry license.
