The School Funding Reform Act of 2014, known as Senate Bill 16, would drastically change the state's education funding formula.

The School Funding Reform Act of 2014, or SB 16, seeks to even out state school funding, giving more to poorer school districts by reducing funding for wealthier districts that have fewer low-income students and more local property tax wealth.

While the bill passed the Senate in May, it hasn’t been considered by the Illinois House, and there is strong opposition from suburban school districts that would be negatively affected by the proposed formula.
