• 'Callous monster': 46 years in prison for Gurnee man who murdered his own brother on Christmas (lakemchenryscanner.com) — A Gurnee man has been sentenced to 46 years in prison for killing his brother at his Boulevard View home on Christmas Day 2022, after a night out in Waukegan. Prosecutors say strong investigative work by Gurnee police and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force helped secure the murder conviction, bringing closure for the victim's family. 
• Every Major New Roller Coaster Opening in 2027 (coaster101.com) — Gurnee coaster fans can look forward to Sky Hawk, a new suspended family coaster opening at Six Flags Great America in 2027 as part of the Camp Timber Trail area. It's billed as the tallest, longest, and fastest suspended family coaster in the Midwest, putting Gurnee on a global list of major new thrill rides debuting that year.
• One Six Flags Cancels Its Popular Halloween Event (travelhost.com) — If you're craving Halloween thrills close to home, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee will still host Fright Fest on select nights from September 19 through November 1, 2026. While Darien Lake in New York has canceled its event, Gurnee's park remains on the national lineup of haunted mazes and scare zones, so locals can plan fall visits now.
