HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded than an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations by the state. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

Someone got into a business in the 200 block of Skokie Valley Road and stole 12 signature candy boxes, police were told at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 5. There was no sign of forced entry.

THEFT

Someone in a maroon minivan stopped in front of a home in the 3000 block of Parkside Drive, someone got out, picked up a landscaping stone and then drove away, police were told 1:22 p.m. on Dec. 5.

THEFT

Someone stole four wallets from various purses during an event in the 700 block of Deerfield Road, police were told on Dec. 5, police were told the following day.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

It was reported at 1:41 a.m. on Dec. 8 that someone got out of a vehicle, smashed the glass – possibly using a tire iron – on the front door of a business in the 1800 block of Deerfield Road and stole 16 cartons of Newport cigarettes.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Someone cut a cord on a decorate outdoor holiday display outside a home in the 500 block of Barberry Road, police were told at 5:05 p.m. on Dec. 10.


ARRESTS

Louis Olswang, 19, of the 1700 block of Lake Cook Road in Highland Park, was arrested shortly after midnight on Dec. 5 and charged with violation of the terms of a bail bond connected with a previous arrest for domestic battery. Police said they responded to a verbal dispute at his residence.

Paul Flemming, 53, of the 1800 block of Farm Road in Lake Forest, was arrested at 7:17 p.m. on Dec. 8 and charged with driving under the influence and unlawful possession of a controlled substance after police responded to a two-car accident in the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road. Flemming was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Ulises Espinoza-Ventura, 26, of the 1900 block of Honore Avenue in North Chicago, was arrested at 2:26 a.m. on Dec. 9 and charged with driving under the influence and driving while license suspended. He was also issued citations for inoperable headlight and open transportation of alcohol after being stopped by police in the 1000 block of Half Day Road.

A 40-year-old Morton Grove man was ticketed for turning left into a parking space and possession of cannabis at 8:12 p.m. on Dec. 9. He also had an outstanding warrant issued by Cook County related to a charge of driving with a suspended license, for which he posted a cash bond.

Hector Garcia, 23, of the 2700 block of Summit Drive in Glenview, was arrested at 1:14 a.m. on Dec. 10 and charged with driving under the influence with a suspended license. He was also ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device, improper lane usage and speeding after being stopped by police near Skokie Valley Road and Half Day Road.

Constantin Suman, 35, of the 5300 block of West Montrose Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 1:45 p.m. on Dec. 10 and charged with driving under the influence and unlawful possession of a controlled substance after police checked on a report of someone passed out behind the wheel of a car in the 0-100 block of Skokie Valley Road.

Jake Boedicker, 19, of the 1000 block of Andean Place in Highland Park, was arrested at 8:26 p.m. on Dec. 10 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance after officers checked out a "suspicious vehicle" parked in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road.

Osmir Lopez, 33, of the 2400 block of 24th Place in North Chicago, was arrested at 1:14 a.m. on Dec. 11 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving under the influence, expired registration, driving while license revoked and endangering the life of a child after being stopped by police in the 700 block of Walnut Street.
