2 Cars Stolen, Winnetka Teen Charged With Drug Felony: Northfield Crimes

NORTHFIELD, IL — The following information comes from the Northfield Police Department as a record of police activity and of those arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indicator of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state, which are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

On the afternoon of July 31, a resident in the 200 block of South Happ Road reported that a vehicle had been burglarized in the overnight hours of July 28-29. The vehicle had been unlocked and a Samsung galaxy 5S cell phone and Costco credit card were stolen.

Someone stole a red 2017 Range Rover from the Land Rover dealership in the 600 block of West Frontage Road between July 19 and July 31. The reported loss was $73,862.84. Police continue to investigate.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

On Aug. 3 at 3:50 p.m., while police were taking a report for a burglary to a motor vehicle in the 2300 block of Clover Lane and found another vehicle in the area had been rummaged through, with coins stolen.

STOLEN VEHICLE

On Aug. 3 at 4:31 a.m., a resident in the 2300 block of Clover Lane reported a silver 2016 Lexus ES 350 had been stolen from the driveway after being left unlocked with the keys inside.

THEFT

On Aug. 3 at 6 p.m., a business on the 1700 block of Harding Road reported that someone picked up a white machine safety cage worth $5,000 from the rear of the building. It turned out the items had been taken by a company that picks up scrap metal, which was contacted. The items were recovered and returned and a decline to prosecute form was completed. As a result, no charges were filed.

ARRESTS

SPEEDING

A 50-year-old Northbrook woman was arrested Aug. 1 at 4:37 p.m. in the 1900 block of Willow Road after police said she was driving 60 mph in a 30 mph zone. She was cited for excessive speeding and expired registration

TRESPASSING/DRUGS

Bryon Heath Brand II, 18, of the 900 block of Private Road in Winnetka, was arrested Aug. 1 at 6:12 p.m. after police responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Colonial Lane for a report of an unwanted person. When they arrived, they found Brand on the premises. Police said he had been told previously he was not allowed on the premises. Police took him into custody and searched his backpack, where they found alcohol and several pills of prescription drugs for which he did not have a prescription.

Brand was charged with felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance, criminal trespass to a residence and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 36-year-old Evanston man was arrested Aug. 3 at 4:51 p.m. after police responded to an accident near the intersection of Willow Road and Sunset Ridge Road. They found one of the drivers had been driving an uninsured vehicle with a suspended license and cited him for both. The other driver, a 76-year-old Highland Park man, was cited for improper turn.
