Hubbard Woods Park

Art in the Village, sponsored by the North Shore Art League will take place at Hubbard Woods Park (939 Green Bay Road) in Winnetka on June 13th and 14th from 10 am – 5 pm. NSAL, the 101 year old arts organization located in the historic Community House, Winnetka is proud to promote this annual juried art show. The park is a beautiful setting for a summer art fair - in the middle of the Village’s Hubbard Woods Design District. This boutique exhibition will <a tabindex="-1" href="https://null" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"></a>feature artists from across the country showcasing their work, including oil paintings, mixed media, photography, sculpture, and more. As an added attraction, on both Saturday and Sunday, NSAL faculty member and portrait artist Lisa DePinto will be on-site to paint quick oil portraits. We hope to see you there!

This 75-minute walking tour starts at the Cenotaph monument on the west side of the historic Village Green. Skokie, IL — Old Orchard Nissan Honors gives police, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and 911 dispatchers a free oil change and car wash June 15–20
Active first responders across the Chicago area can get a free oil change and car wash in Skokie this June, with no purchase necessary.
The program is called Old Orchard Nissan Honors, and it runs Monday, June 15 through Saturday, June 20, 2026. It is open to active police officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and 911 dispatchers from any department — not just those in Skokie, Niles, Morton Grove, Evanston or Lincolnwood. First responders from anywhere in the Chicago area are welcome.
Here is how it works. Eligible first responders bring their vehicle to the <a href="https://www.oldorchardnissan.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Old Orchard Nissan</a> service department during the launch week and show an active work ID at drop-off. They receive a free oil change — up to five quarts of oil with a new filter — and a complimentary car wash. The offer covers most makes and models, so a non-Nissan vehicle is fine, though trucks, diesel engines and V8 engines are not eligible. Work is done by the dealership’s certified technicians.
An appointment is recommended to keep wait times down, though walk-ins will be accepted. Spots are limited and offered first come, first served. First responders are encouraged to call the service department to check availability and book a time.
“We wanted to thank the people who take care of our neighborhoods, and this is a simple, real way to do it,” said Tim McKay, Fixed Operations Director at Old Orchard Nissan. “If you’re a first responder, give us a call to set up a time that week, and we’ll take care of the rest.”
Old Orchard Nissan Honors is what the dealership describes as its first formally named community program, and the plan is to bring it back every June. Details are available at oldorchardnissan.com.

The Book Stall welcomes Suzy McNamara to the store for a poignant discussion of her new memoir, The Silkworm, The Magician, and The Sister Tree: A Tale of Love and Loss, in-conversation with Katie Seigenthaler. This memoir of caregiving, love, and finding your way through devastating loss is a story of survival of the loss of a husband and sister. This is also a love story between two kindred spirits who found each other despite vastly different backgrounds and two sisters who forged a bond amongst the chaos of their childhood and relied on that bond throughout lives steeped in tragedy and trauma.
Suzy McNamara spent five years as a caregiver for her husband, who lived with Early-onset Alzheimer’s. When she lost him and her sister within the same year, she turned to writing as the only language honest enough for what she’d survived. She writes for those navigating loss and the often-invisible weight of caring for someone they love with the steady conviction that grief, however isolating, does not have to be the end of the story.

Based on the experiences of a real Italian-Jewish cook named Edda Servi Machlin, the novel tells two stories: that of Stella, a Jewish girl from the Tuscan town of Pitigliano, who spends the winter of 1943 fleeing Fascist and Nazi brutality, and that of Edda, a Westchester housewife trying to save a lost treasure — Italian Jewish cuisine. Each chapter includes a recipe updated for modern kitchens. &nbsp;Ms. Eskin will be in-conversation with editor Arthur Levine.&nbsp;
Leah Eskin writes about food and other pressing matters. For almost thirty years, her award-winning column “Home on the Range” ran in the Chicago Tribune and other newspapers. Arthur A. Levine founded Levine Querido in April 2019, after a 23-year tenure as the President and Publisher of Arthur A. Levine Books, an imprint of Scholastic. Still With Us: Navigating Loss with Intuition and Spirit is a small, in-person 4-session summer series for those moving through grief while feeling drawn to explore the possibility of continuing connection with a loved one who has transitioned.
This is not therapy, but a gentle and reflective space for meditation, journaling, conversation, and shared presence. Together, participants explore grief, continuing bonds, signs and symbols, and the quiet ways connection may continue to be felt after loss.
The group is intentionally small (6–8 participants), with each session building gently on the last.

Join us at The Book Stall for a Saturday Storytime featuring award-winning author Miranda Paul and her new book, Kaleidoscope of Hope: How Butterfly Life Cycles Reflect Our World. In a richly layered text, acclaimed author Miranda Paul explores each stage of a butterfly’s life cycle, while providing lessons in care and responsibility and encouraging hope for the future of our planet. Ms. Paul will lead an interactive event for children to examine butterfly wings up-close and provide materials from the “puddling activity” found in the backmatter of the book so kids can help butterflies in their own backyard. This nonfiction picture book is perfect for kids ages 4 to 8.&nbsp;
Miranda Paul is an award-winning children’s author of more than twenty books for children. Several of her books have been named Junior Library Guild selections and CCBC Choices selections. Her acclaimed work includes One Plastic Bag, Water Is Water, Whose Hands Are These?; Nine Months, illustrated by Caldecott Honoree Jason Chin; Little Libraries, Big Heroes; Thanku: Poems of Gratitude; and Speak Up. Some of her most notable titles with international acclaim have stemmed from collaborating with activist icons—Isatou Ceesay, Farmer Tantoh Nforba, and Rashida Tlaib. She is an annual faculty member at the Highlights Foundation and a co-founding member of the nonprofit organization We Need Diverse Books. The Book Stall is excited to host bestselling author Kathleen Rooney&nbsp;on Thursday, July 9 at 6:00 pm for a discussion featuring her new book, Man Overboard!, a funny and moving novel in which a former college swimmer falls off a cruise ship and must keep treading water as memories and regrets wash over him. Man Overboard! is an inventive, slyly hilarious, and inspiring novel about what it means to be alive, stay alive, and what keeps us going no matter how choppy the waves of our journey become. Hold on for dear life! Ms. Rooney will be in-conversation with Sara Levine.&nbsp;
Kathleen Rooney is the nationally bestselling author of Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk, as well as Cher Ami and Major Whittlesey and From Dust to Stardust. She has won the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize from Poetry magazine and the Adam Morgan Literary Citizen Award from the Chicago Review of Books. Kathleen’s criticism can be found in The New York Times, the Star Tribune (Minneapolis), The Brooklyn Rail, Chicago magazine, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and beyond. She lives in Chicago with her spouse, the writer Martin Seay, and teaches English and creative writing at DePaul University.&nbsp;
