4 Homes, 7 Cars Burgled, Pair Of Cars Stolen: Highland Park Crime

A pattern of smash-and-grab, back-door residential burglaries emerged on the Highland Park police blotter for Dec. 19 to Jan. 1.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded than an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations by the state. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
Someone stole multiple watches and items of jewelry from a home in the 1800 block of Dale Avenue, police were told at 4:53 p.m. on Dec. 18.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Sometime between 10:50 a.m. and noon on Dec. 19, someone wrote on the window and scratched a door of a parked Jeep in the 1700 block of First Street.

RETAIL THEFT
One or more people stole three Canada Goose jackets and one North Face jacket from an unspecified business in the 1600 block of Old Skokie Road and ran from the store around 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 20, police were told.

CAR/RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
Someone got into a garage using an opener found in an unlocked car in the 700 block of Burchell Avenue. Three cars were rummaged through in the area. Some cash and a phone power cord were reported stolen. The incident was reported the morning of Dec. 21.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone got into an unlocked SUV parked parked in the 1500 block of Ridge Road and stole a diaper bag, baby clothes, books and other various items, police were told the morning of Dec. 21.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole an unlocked Audi with the keys left inside that had been parked in a driveway in the 1900 block of Browning Court during the overnight hours of Dec. 21-22.

CAR BURGLARY
Two vehicles left unlocked in the 2200 block of Tennyson Lane were entered and rummaged through sometime after 2 a.m. on Dec. 22. A computer bag with laptops inside and a checkbook were reported stolen that afternoon.

VEHICULAR TRESPASS
Four vehicles in a driveway in the 2100 block of Hybernia Drive left unlocked while parked overnight on Dec. 21-22 were entered but nothing was reported stolen.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone smashed the passenger window of a car parked in the 500 block of Elm Place, police were told on the evening of Dec. 22.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone smashed the back porch window of a home in the 1800 block of Sunset Road between 8:15 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. on Dec. 28 and took various pieces of jewelry, some watches and a box of checks.

HOME BURGLARY
Sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, someone smashed through a rear sliding glass door of a home in the 1500 block of Deerfield Place and took purses, a jacket, jewelry and cash.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a flashlight from inside an unlocked vehicle in the 1000 block of Deerfield Place. It was was later found in the street nearby, police were told on the morning of Dec. 30.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole an owner's manual, a multi tool and insurance information from a vehicle left unlocked in the the 1500 block of Deerfield Place was entered during the overnight hours of Dec. 29-30.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a box of coins from inside a car parked unlocked in the 1200 block of Arbor Avenue during the overnight hours of Dec. 29-30.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone smashed the rear door window of a home in the 1400 block of McDaniels Avenue and stole a flat screen television and jewelry sometime between Dec. 28-30.

VEHICULAR TRESPASS
Someone rummaged through a vehicle left unlocked parked in a driveway in the 1200 block of Arbor Avenue during the overnight of Dec. 29-30. Nothing was reported missing.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Jeep Cherokee that had been parked in a driveway in the 3000 block of Centennial Lane during the overnight hours of Dec. 29-30. It was not immediately known if the SUV had been left unlocked or if a spare key was inside.


ARRESTS

A 20-year-old Round Lake woman was arrested shortly before 1 a.m. on Dec. 19 and charged with driving on s suspended license after police pulled her over for speeding near Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road.

Matthew Kuruvilla Theccanat, 56, of the 9300 block of Murray Court, Morton Grove was arrested at 1:33 p.m. on Dec. 24 and charged with driving under the influence after being stopped by police in the 500 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage and open transportation of alcohol.

Oscar Martinez, 31, of the 600 block of Central Avenue, Highland Park was arrested at 1:29 a.m. on Dec. 26 on an outstanding warrant issued by Lake County for failure to appear after police encountered him while responding to a commercial alarm in the 1800 block of Deerfield Road.

Carl Girardin, 28, of the 2300 block of Southport Avenue, Chicago was arrested at 6:11 p.m. due to an outstanding failure to appear warrant issued by Lake County connected to a previously reported Highland Park case of retail theft.

A 21-year-old Chicago man was arrested was arrested at 2:12 p.m. on Dec. 29 and charged with driving without a valid license and speeding after police responded to a two-car accident in the 2400 block of Skokie Valley Road.

Gregory L. Griffin, 37, of the 0-100 block of McKibbin Street, Highland Park was arrested at 1:56 p.m. on Dec. 30 and charged with theft after police responded to a business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road.

A 28-year-old Waukegan man was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. on Jan. 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license after being stopped by police near Half Day Road and Skokie Valley Road. He was ticketed for improper lane usage.

A 34-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. on Jan. 1 and charged with driving with a suspended after being stopped by police in the 2600 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage.
