5 Cars Burgled, 3 Charged With DUI, 1 SUV Stolen: Highland Park Crime Reports

Highland Park Police Blotter: Oct. 17 - Oct. 23

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded than an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations by the state. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY

Someone pried open a door and broke a lock to a storage unit in the 600 block of Elm Place, but nothing was immediately reported missing on the morning of Oct. 19.

CAR BURGLARY

Someone got into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 2000 block of St. Johns Avenue and stole a pair prescription sunglasses, police were told on the morning of Oct. 19.

STOLEN CAR

Someone stole a white Jeep Grand Cherokee sometime during the overnight hours of Oct. 20-21 from a driveway in the 1600 block of Jasmine Court.

CAR BURGLARY

Someone stole a purse out of an unlocked vehicle parked in the 900 block of Marion Avenue, police were told the morning of Oct. 21.

CAR BURGLARY

Also on the morning of Oct. 21, police were told someone stole a black briefcase out of another unlocked vehicle parked in the 900 block of Marion Avenue.

CAR BURGLARY

Also on the morning of Oct. 21, police were told two other unlocked cars had been entered illegally in the 900 block of Marion Avenue, but nothing was reported missing.

THEFT

On Oct. 21 between 3:34 p.m. and 4:10 p.m., someone reportedly stole a FedEx package containing a guitar pedal from the from step of a home in the 200 block of Ridge Road.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 40-year-old Elmwood Park man was arrested and charged with altered registration after police pulled him over in the 900 block of Deerfield Road at 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 17.

A 67-year old Highland Park woman was issued an administrative retail theft citation for reportedly hiding makeup and trying to leave a business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road on Oct. 18 at 2:10 p.m.

Myron Cohen, 80, of the 1600 block of Friar Tuck Avenue, was arrested after police showed up at a traffic crash in the 1800 block of Second Street on Oct. 18 around 7:13 p.m. He was charged with driving under the influence.

Garrett Bland, 22, of the 7300 block of North Keeler Avenue in Lincolnwood, was arrested and charged with retail theft after hiding liquor at a business in the 1600 block of Deerfield Road on Oct. 19 at 6:29 p.m.

A 39-year-old Aurora man was arrested after a traffic stop near Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued a citation for disobeying a traffic control device and driving an uninsured vehicle, and he posted a cash bond on an outstanding LaSalle County warrant connected to a drug paraphernalia charge.

Leigh Bickmore, 53, of the 1100 block of Oxford Road, Deerfield, was arrested on Oct. 20 at 8:11 p.m. by police investigating a traffic crash in the 1300 block of Half Day Road. She was charged with driving under the influence and issued citations for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Hector Matute-Guardado, 19, of the 100 block of Butrick, Waukegan, was arrested on Oct. 22 at 4:24 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence and without a license after he was pulled over by police in the 3200 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for no headlights, improper lane usage, driving without insurance and cannabis possession.
