5 Charged With DUI Over About 48 Hours In Highland Park: Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY
A resident in the 900 block of Burton Avenue reported around 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 4 that someone had rummaged through an unlocked vehicle during the previous night. At the time of the report, nothing was listed as stolen and no one had been identified as a suspect.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Ivan Harrington, 18, of the 200 block of Charles Place, Wilmette, was arrested around 1 p.m. on Feb. 6 and charged with two counts of battery after police were called to a report of a fight in the 700 block of Red Oak Lane.

David L. Harris, 54, of the first block of Vine Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested shortly before 1 a.m. on Feb. 7 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled him over for an unspecified reason near the intersection of Central Avenue and Green Bay Road.

Gustavo Carmona, 24, of the 900 block of Lenox Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 8 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Applewood Court. Police also issued him citations for speeding 35 mph or more above the limit and improper lane usage.

William Vatkin, 27, of the 4100 block of North Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Feb. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving with a suspended or revoked license after police pulled him over for unspecified reasons near the corner of Skokie Valley and Clavey roads.

Ahsan Zahid, 24, of the 2600 block of West Berwyn Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 4 a.m. on Feb. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop at the intersection of Laurel Avenue and First Street. He was also ticketed for disobeying a traffic signal or sign and improperly possessing cannabis.

Tom Alexander, 34, of the 300 block of North Green Bay Road, Waukegan, was arrested around 5:30 a.m on Feb. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after police pulled him over following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Parkside Drive. Officers also issued him citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol, speeding 20 to 24 mph above the limit and improper lane usage.
