U.S. Rep. Robert Dold and State Rep. Sandy Cole toured the North Shore Sanitary District's award-winning Gurnee Sewage Treatment Plant on April 11.
The North Shore Sanitary District serves approximately 315,000 residents in the Lake County communities of: Winthrop Harbor; Zion; Beach Park; Waukegan; Gurnee; Grayslake; Park City; North Chicago; Great Lakes; Green Oaks; Lake Bluff; Lake Forest; Highwood; Fort Sheridan;
Highland Park; Bannockburn; Deerfield; and the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. The NSSD collects and conveys wastewater from local sewer systems in these communities to its treatment plants in Waukegan, Highland Park and Gurnee, all of which have been recognized by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) for their excellence.
