TACHP offers updated programs that span the ages, skill levels and interests: a truly diverse program with renewed depth.

TACHP offers updated programs that span the ages, skill levels and interests: a truly diverse program with renewed depth.

New courses for all, plus expanded children’s and seniors courses, mark the new session at The Art Center Highland Park as they continue to Expand Their Horizons.

All last year Director of Education, Mindy Tiberi sought out new classes to make good on TACHP’s current strategy, ‘Expanding Our Horizons’, and the work is paying off in new, expanded programing, some never before seen at TACHP.

For example, new this fall are several courses with Heather Killian, artist, mask maker, performer and designer. Heather’s wearable, larger-than-life puppets have been featured in parades, parties and performances all around the area. She’s offering classes for youths and adults in both puppetry and mask making.

Tots and their parents will be introduced to new faculty member Lauren Perlman. “In the past these classes wouldn’t always fill, but we’ve had so many requests for activities for this age group, 2-4 year olds, that we’re restarting them”. For the next age group, 5-7 year olds, Jody Casden will offer Art Adventures, a program about creative freedom, confidence building and creative problem solving.

For seniors, musician and Highland Park native Noah Plotkin will offer Life Rhythms Drum and Singing Circle, a four session program that focuses on improving cognitive activity by allowing seniors to feel a sense of purpose, stay engaged, socially active, responsive and alert by participating in recreational and therapeutic drumming activities in a community setting. This addition is part of a greatly expanded health and wellness initiative, focusing on the context of ‘the healing arts’.

This updated programming is just the beginning, with scheduled pop ups, lectures, Sunday Salon events and performances and a renewed energy at this great community resource. Daily tours of the galleries and classrooms can be arranged on the same day or by dropping in at 1957 Sheridan Road, HP, Monday through Saturday, Sundays be arrangement. Scholarships are available and people can Try A Class with a small audit fee before committing to an entire series. Registration in the office or online at www.theartcenterhp.org, 847-432-1888.
