Artist Jan Keller Schultz’s “Evolution” on Display at the NSYMCA

Highland Park artist opens new show in April.

A new exhibit of paintings by Highland Park resident Jan Keller Schultz is on display at the North Suburban YMCA’s Community Gallery during the month of April. Entitled “Evolution,” the exhibit includes groupings of thematic paintings featuring one Sumi-e (Asian art) painting, one watercolor, and one woven piece.

“I began with Sumi-e, moved on to watercolors, and am currently experimenting with a technique where I cut up several of my watercolors and re-weave them together to form an entirely different work of art, with a focus on composition, color and texture,” explained Schultz. “This new show reflects my changing interests and growth as an artist.” Schultz began her journey as an artist ten years ago, while working as a clinical social worker.

The pieces in the “Evolution” exhibit are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Y’s Visual Arts Program. The North Suburban YMCA’s Community Gallery support the local arts community by presenting free public exhibitions of work by artists from the northern suburbs. The Y also offers a range of art classes and studio space available to all ages. For more information, visit NSYMCA.org.
