HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES

  • Someone broke a window pane on the front door of the Exmoor Country Club, 700 Vine Ave., went inside and stole an unknown amount of beer at some point during the night of Nov. 1 or early morning hours of Nov. 2.
  • Burglars broke into Highland Park Ford, 1333 Park Ave. W., during the night of Nov. 2 or early morning hours of Nov. 3 and stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Ford Mustang after rummaging through the key fobs in the car dealership's office. A personal checkbook was also reported stolen. The two stolen cars were later found, undamaged, in Wisconsin.
  • Shortly before noon on Nov. 5, police were called to the Audi Exchange, 2490 Skokie Valley Road, where one or more burglars had gotten into the showroom the prior night. Police reported nothing was reported missing and there was no damage to the property.

JEWELRY THEFT
A resident in the 2800 block of Patten Road reported on Nov. 2 that three watches, a diamond neckless and a Louis Vuitton day planner had been stolen from their home sometime in the prior two months. Police reported there were no indications of a break-in.

MAIL THEFT
Someone stole two debit cards from the mail delivered to a home in the 3100 block of Dato Avenue at some point prior to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 2. The cards were later used fraudulently at various businesses.

RETAIL THEFT
An unidentified man stole about $700 worth of skin care products, vitamins and frozen food from the Walgreens, 632 Roger Williams Ave., at some point prior to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 5.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Matthews M. Thomas, 31, of the 600 block of East Woodland Park Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on Nov. 2 and charged with possession of ammunition without a valid firearm owners identification card and unlawful possession of an open container of cannabis by a driver, both misdemeanors, following a traffic stop near the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue West. Officers also issued him a citation for speeding between 26 mph and 45 mph above the limit. According to police, he had about 20 grams of cannabis and 21 live rounds of Winchester .380 ammunition.
