'Best Night of My Life': 2 North Suburban Girls Dance With Justin Bieber (VIDEO)

Jordyn Shapiro, of Highland Park, and Hannah Ohel, of Long Grove, talk about sharing a stage for one night with the pop star.

There's a personal affirmation that says you should dance like no one's watching.

But what happens when thousands of people are watching as you dance? And the person you're dancing with is one of the biggest pop stars around?

"I thought I was going to puke knowing there was 18,000 people out there," said Hannah Ohel, describing how it felt before taking the stage Saturday to perform with Justin Bieber during one of his two concerts at Rosemont's Allstate Arena. "I was so nervous knowing a bunch of them are going to be staring at me."

But how did the Long Grove 11-year-old feel after the experience?

"Amazed it even happened!" Hannah said. "I don't even know how to put it into words. ... It felt like a whole other world! People before didn't know who I was. But after, there were so many people saying, 'Amazing job, you're a great dancer! Can I have your picture?' Or whispering, 'Can I touch the hand Justin Bieber touched?'

"[That felt w]eird. I'm still just a normal, average person."

Hannah was one of two north suburban dancers from Soul2Sole Dance studios who was selected to shimmy and shake with Bieber onstage this past weekend during the singer's Chicago shows for his The Purpose World Tour. Jordyn Shapiro, of Highland Park and also 11, performed with Bieber during his Friday, April 22, show.

"The best night of my life," Jordyn said. "Best part of the night was having him dance right next to us."

The 11-year-olds earned their spots as part of a contest that had thousands of young dancers send in videos performing to one of Bieber's songs. To compete, contestants needed to record themselves dancing to the single "Children." Eight dancers were then chosen to perform during Bieber's Chicago shows.

For Hannah, finding out she would be dancing with Bieber was almost as dramatic and eventful as the actual performance:

"Funny story, actually. I was at school, and my teacher got a call from the office saying they needed me right away to go down to office. So I went down scared but knew I didn’t do anything wrong. I thought I got in trouble for something I didn’t do.

"When I got there, my principal said to call my mom right away, so I did, and the first thing I hear is, 'I got an email.'

"I told her I was scared and didn’t do anything wrong, and she told me, 'It’s OK and nothing to be scared about. You know how you have been waiting for an important email? I got it and what do you think it says?'

...

"I started to cry a little in the middle of school because I was so happy."

Hannah and Jordyn spent about a week and half learning and practicing the routine they would perform with Bieber, something they did together despite each dancing during different shows.

And while the girls were excited as they awaited their big nights, that feeling of nervousness and anticipation wasn't there's alone. They shared it with their parents.

"I was beyond floored when Jordyn screamed and fell on the floor while reading her email," said Jordyn's mom, Leslie. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am so proud of how hard she works at dance. She always gives 100 percent effort, whether it is practice or a competition. I have told Jordyn to just have fun and try as hard as she can to enjoy the moment!"

"As a parent, one of the coolest things is seeing your kids happy, healthy and thriving," Hannah's mother, Shoshana, told Patch last week. "We feel so fortunate and blessed to watch Hannah as she travels on her dance journey. I think this might be just a beginning. ..."

Get Patched In

Both girls definitely want to continue dancing in the future, and their experiences this past weekend only reinforced that.

"It was unbelievable being on stage," Jordyn said.

Performing on the Allstate Arena stage with an international pop superstar gave Hannah a new perspective―as well as a renewed inspiration―for the artform she loves.

"Seeing how the artist sees the audience just gets me excited," she said. "It just motivates me to want to keep working harder."

In fact, before going onstage to dance with Bieber, Hannah told her mom: "That's what I want to do when I get older."

Her mom's response? "That's what you are going to do tonight! You don't have to wait till you are older."
