Bicycle Burglar Nabbed Over 4 Miles North Of Crime Scene: Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package containing about $120 worth of baby clothes from the front steps of a home in the 300 block of Park Avenue sometime between 2:25 and 7 p.m. on June 29.
SCOOTER THEFT
An unattended silver Native Stem-branded scooter was stolen from the skate park in the 1800 block of Sunset Road prior to 8 p.m. on July 2.

GRAFFITI
On the morning of July 4, spray-painted messages in support of the Black Lives Matter movement from about three weeks earlier were reported on a private beach in the 2700 block of Sheridan Avenue.
JEWELRY THEFT
A 14-karat, Cuban-linked white gold bracelet worth $5,000 was reported missing from a night stand inside a home in the 2200 block of Grange Avenue after it was left there on the evening of July 2.

SHOPLIFTING
- A man who appeared to be in his late 50s or early 60s stole a cooler from the Mutual Ace Hardware at 1393 Half Day Road at some point on July 3.
- Two men stole about 70 packs of Newport cigarettes, 10 cartons of Marlboro cigarettes and an unknown amount of stolen liquor from the Walgreens store at 655 Elm Place prior to about 3:30 p.m. on July 5. They fled in a black Ford sedan.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Jakub Ozog, 24, of the 2000 block of North 18th Avenue, Melrose Park, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on June 29 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after officers were called to the scene of a two-car crash with injuries at Half Day Road and Skokie Valley Road. Police reported both cars were disabled and Ozog was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Dylan Mendoza-Galan, 19, of the 3400 block of Harvey Avenue, Park City, was arrested around 3 a.m. on June 30 following a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and endangering the life and health of a child. Police also issued him citations for speeding, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
Tio Green, 20, of the 7900 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 7 p.m. on July 3 and charged with misdemeanor theft. Police reported they had received a call about an hour earlier that someone had just stolen a teal women's bicycle from inside a garage left open in the 500 block of Braeside Road before officers found Green riding the bike near St. Johns and Temple avenues.
