Bridge Collapses in Sleepy Hollow Park Overnight
Injuries averted when the pedestrian bridge made out of steel and concrete collapsed in Highland Park.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - The pedestrian bridge in Highland Park's Sleepy Hollow Park collapsed overnight, according to a news release from the Park District of Highland Park. No one was using the bridge at the time of the collapse.
The exact cause of the collapse of the steel and concrete bridge that connects Sleepy Hollow Park and Danny Cunniff Park at 2700 Trail Way is not yet known and under investigation. The Park District has closed access to the bridge while several engineers have been called in to evaluate the situation.
“The safety of our residents in our parks and facilities is a top priority and we are grateful that no one was on the bridge at the time of the incident,” said Liza McElroy, executive director of the Park District of Highland Park. “We are working with our engineers and risk management firm to determine the cause of the bridge collapse and will keep the public updated as we know more.”
