Chicago Women No Longer Paying Full Price For Designer Clothing
How Luxury Resale Boutique in Highland Park is Changing the Consignment Shop Industry in Chicago's North Shore

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (May 2019) – My Best Friend’s Closet, located at 1780 Green Bay Road in Downtown Highland Park, is making a huge splash in the world of consignment shopping.
My Best Friend’s Closet is a women’s luxury resale boutique located in the heart of Chicago’s North Shore. Owner and Founder Gilat Zamost has transformed her small business into a high-end shopping destination for women of all income ranges.
“Most women would love to own quality, designer clothing, but not everyone can afford to spend thousands of dollars on only a few items in a single shopping trip to a retail store. That’s where we come in,” said Zamost. “Each and every person that walks in my store receives a one-on-one personal styling experience. Together, we create the perfect outfit for any occasion based on the customer’s needs, price range and style. My customers leave smiling ear to ear. It is so much fun to see women feeling good about what they buy.”

The boutique was founded on the idea that shopping should be an enjoyable experience. Shopping for clothing can be draining to not only the wallet, but also on one’s self-esteem. It can cause frustration, as some women feel overwhelmed and do not know where to begin.
“Many people think that personal shoppers are solely for wealthier individuals, but that is not the case,” said Zamost. “When you walk into MBFC, all you have to do is tell me what you are looking for. Customers are guided to relax in the fitting room as I put together full outfits from the world’s top designers for them to try on. It takes the stress and anxiety away from shopping. Most consignment shops don’t offer this type of assistance.”

Zamost, a New York native, has been shopping consignment her entire life. New York is home to some of the largest and most successfulconsignment shops. She brought her knowledge and passion of resale to the North Shore ten years ago and has since become a well-known name in the consignment industry. Zamost now has both customers and consigners from not only the Chicagoland area, but all over the world.
Zamost, a passionate individual for the environment and her community, uses her business to cater to both of these causes. Each year, 21 billion pounds of used clothing ends up in landfills, and only 10 to 15 percent of donated clothing actually ends up being repurposed.
“I opened a consignment shop because of the horrifying amount of unwanted clothing going into landfills. Consigning allows people to get rid of their unwanted clothing without feeling the guilt of throwing it away. In addition, they receive a percentage of the selling price of the clothing, so it is really a win-win!” said Zamost. “I decided to sell high-end clothing because the great quality in the material is unmatched to mass-produced clothing sold in most chain stores. The clothing are timeless pieces and are in great condition.”
My Best Friend’s Closet has made an impact on not only local shoppers, but many philanthropical causes as well. Zamost serves as the Vice President of Bridge to Success, a local non-profit that enhances employment opportunities for at-risk, low-income, no-income men, women, and young adults by providing high-end interview and workplace appropriate clothing, personal stylist and coaching, and self-confidence building through appearance, interview preparation and sense of belonging at the workplace. Zamost uses her fashion industry and consignment network to assist in this cause. She has worked with a number of schools, charities and organizations in the Chicagoland area including A Safe Place, The Glass Slipper Project, Highland Park High School, Loyola Academy, For Autistic Kids Foundation and more. To give the community opportunities to give back to causes they are passionate about, My Best Friend’s Closet has launched “Ladies Night,” where customers can book a private evening at the boutique with food, drinks, and a private styling and shopping experience. A percentage of purchases made that night goes directly to a charity of the group’s choice.
