Chinese Engineers Tour Gurnee Water Reclamation Facility & Lab
NSWRD Honored to Host Chinese Engineers
Recently, the NSWRD in Gurnee was honored to host a group of Chinese engineers and managers from the Engineering Corporation of Water Environmental and Urban Infrastructure (WEUI), a subsidiary of Chengdu Engineering Corporation. Joe Robinson, Director of Laboratory Services conducted the lab tour, while Tom Lenz, Gurnee WRF Superintendent and Ted Sowa, Gurnee WRF Assistant Superintendent conducted the plant tour.
The visit offered a technical tour of the NSWRD, highlighting its innovative technologies, engineering, and best management practices. Ideas about water environment protections and lessons learned were shared while best practices suggestions were offered.
Chengdu Engineering Corporation is owned by PowerChina (an ENR top-ranked Global contractor and design firm). Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan Province, China, the state with the largest population. WEUI has a staff of over 300 engineers and scientists. The firm is involved in urban watershed management, ecosystem restoration, storm water management, pollution control, water quality improvement, flood control, landscaping and architecture, and, water/wastewater engineering projects in China.

The North Shore Water Reclamation District is a municipal corporation that was organized in 1914 under the North Shore Sanitary District Act of 1911. Under this Act, the District has been charged with the responsibility of providing sewage treatment and disposal for a service area which generally is bounded by the Wisconsin border on the north, Lake-Cook Road on the south, Lake Michigan on the east, and the I-94 toll road on the west. An elected Board of Trustees consisting of five members governs the District.
