Christmas Eve Shoplifting Call Leads To Warrant Arrest: Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
SHOPLIFTING
One or more thieves stole multiple winter jackets worth $5,000 to $10,000 from the Uncle Dan's Outdoor Store at 621 Central Ave. prior to 5:36 p.m. on Dec. 29, police were told. No suspects had been identified at the time of the initial report.

PACKAGE PIRACY
A resident reported at 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 30 that someone had stolen a package of unspecified value from the front porch of a home in the 900 block of Timber Hill Road.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Veronica Roldan, 29, of the 1800 block of Cuyler Drive, Berwyn, was arrested shortly after 2 a.m. on Dec. 24 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Parkside Avenue. Police also issued her citations for speeding 26 to 36 mph above the limit and improper lane usage.

Garry Turpin, 43, of the 1200 block of W. Atlantic Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested around 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 24 on an an in-state warrant when police got a call of shoplifting in progress at a business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road. Turpin was taken into custody and held at the Lake County Jail over Christmas Eve. Records show a warrant for his arrest was sought by Gurnee police and received in October following a Sept. 29 incident in which he is accused of shoplifting merchandise worth less than $300.
Matthew Smith, 27, of the 7000 block of North Paulina Street, Chicago, was arrested around 5:15 a.m. on Dec. 25 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop at the intersection of St. John's Avenue and Maple Avenue. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver, possession of a small amount of cannabis and disobeying a traffic signal or sign.
Eder Dominguez-Salgado, 36, of the 300 block of Walnut Street, Mundelein, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a BAC of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. He was also issued a speeding ticket.
Felipe Nava-Ortega, 43, of the 600 block of Walnut Street, Highland Park, was arrested at 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and issued citations for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver after police pulled him over on Central Avenue.
