Council Won't Allow Food Trucks for Library Event

Request to ward off six parking spaces denied because of plan to operate food trucks.

The Highland Park City Council has rejected a request from the Highland Park Public Library to allow food trucks to operate over six parking spaces for an upcoming event.

The library wanted to have the food trucks operate behind the library during the “How-To-Fest” on June 7 and sought to ward off the parking spots on the public-right-of-way at 494 Laurel Ave.

One councilwoman said her issue was with the competition the food trucks could cause with local restaurants, according to the Highland Park News.

“I don’t have a problem with the parking spaces,” said Alyssa Knobel when the item came up for a vote April 27. “It’s what they are going to do with them. They want to put food trucks in that space. This is a very busy time for our downtown restaurants.”
