Donations Sought for HPHS Alum with Cancer

Stanton Bohmbach has had colon cancer for more than two years, and is in Arizona undergoing chemotherapy.

Stanton Bohmbach has kept a positive attitude despite having been diagnosed with colon cancer back in the summer of 2013. He has undergone two surgeries and 24 treatments of chemotherapy during that time.

But the health of the 2009 Highland Park High School graduate has quickly deteriorated over the past couple of months, and Bohmbach has to see a doctor four times a week.

“For the first time I can see real signs of cancer,” Bombach wrote on a GoFundMe page created to help her pay for his medical expenses and fight cancer. “Bumps have popped up in my abdomen and I am having a hard time eating.”

Friends and family have joined forces with others in helping Bohmbach reach $50,000 in donations. So far, 335 people have donated a total of $30,644 as of Monday night.

Bohmbach, who now lives in Chicago, is in Arizona currently undergoing a chemotherapy that “decreases the toxicity and allows (his) body to recover and (his) immune system to stay strong.”

“This is the treatment that I thoroughly believe will work for me long term but unfortunately it is expensive and only partially covered by insurance,” he said.
