Driver Stuck In Snow, Doesn't Pay To Tow, Charged As DUI: Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park police department and court records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Police were told around 1:45 p.m. on Jan. 29 someone stole keys from an unlocked locker in the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road and that someone had rummaged through the parked car without stealing anything from inside.
  • Around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 29, police were told someone had stolen a jacket and a watch from a vehicle in the 3200 block of Skokie Valley Road.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 100 block of Aspen Lane reported around 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 3 they had discovered a break-in and noticed a safe had been stolen. No suspects had been identified at the time of the report.

ARRESTS

A 36-year-old Wheeling man was arrested around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 31 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license following a two-car traffic crash in the area of First Street and Elm Place. There were no injuries reported and the driver was also issued a citation for failure to yield at an intersection.

Melissa Bonilla, 25, of the 11000 block of West Grand Avenue, Melrose Park, was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and theft of labor or services after police were called to the 300 block of Edens Expressway for a report that she had failed to pay towing fees when her car got stuck in the snow. Bonilla was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol and disobeying a traffic control device.
