HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
JEWELRY THEFT
A pair of diamond earrings worth an estimated $29,000 went missing after a move from a home in the 1700 block of Sunnyside Avenue on May 25.
THEFT OF LOST/UNATTENDED PROPERTY
Someone stole about $900 in cash from a wallet after it was left at an unspecifeid gas station in the 1800 block of Green Bay Road on May 20, police were told 11 days later.

STOLEN BIKE
Staff at the Trek bicycle store, 1925 Skokie Valley Road, reported on June 1 that an unidentified person had come into the store and asked to ride a bike on a test ride. The person left the store with a $1,400 bike and never returned.
DIRT THEFT
Someone stole a bag of dirt of unknown value from the driveway of a home in the 2100 block of Churchill Court sometime prior to 1 p.m. on June 7.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone cut landscape lights at a home in the 800 block of Sumac Road at some point between June 4 and June 10, causing an unknown amount of damage.
SHOPLIFTING
- Someone stole an uncalculated amount of alcohol from the CVS at 2000 Skokie Valley Road around 1:15 p.m. on June 6 after filling up a backpack with various bottles and leaving the store.
- Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on June 5, someone stole 57 bottles of alcohol worth about $2,200 from the Jewel-Osco, 1600 Deerfield Road, police were told the following morning.
CAR BURGLARIES
- Someone smashed the rear driver's side window of a Mercedes parked in a lot in the 2700 block of Trail Way prior to 10 a.m. June 8 and stole a tote bag with clothes inside from the back seat.
- Someone smashed a window of a Mercedes in the 1100 block of Park Avenue West and stole a green leather purse from inside prior to 10 a.m. June 8.
- Another Mercedes was burglarized in the 2700 block of Trail Way prior to 10:45 a.m. June 8.
- Five cars were burglarized in the 1100 block of Park Avenue West prior to 11 a.m. on June 8. Thieves stole a brown purse and key from an unlocked BMW SUV, a Gucci purse and earburds from an unlocked Hyundai — with cards stolen from the purse later used at a Walmart to try to make a $1,100 purchase — a green purse from a Honda van, a tote bag with Chanel sunglasses through the open window of an Acura and a purse and jewelry from a BMW with a broken window.
- Around 2:15 p.m. on June 8, police were called to a car burglary in the 1200 block of Park Avenue West, where someone had broken the window of a Ford SUV and stole a floral bag from inside for an uncalculated loss.
- Someone stole a purse from a possibly unlocked car in the first block of Park Avenue between 1 and 3:30 p.m. June 10.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Marlin Murillo, 58, of the 1400 block of Oak Avenue, Round Lake Beach, was arrested on May 18 and charged with theft of lost or mislaid property after he picked up a wallet from the ground in front of a pastry shop in the 800 block of Sheridan Road, Highwood, and kept possession of it until he was confronted by a supervisor.
Shaun P. Wilks, 50, of the 13800 block of Azalea Circle in Tampa Bay, Florida, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on June 6 after officers called to help a resident at the intersection of Clavey and Skokie Valley roads found that Wilks had an active arrest warrant issued after he failed to appear in court in Fulton County.
Kyung Hee Baek, 66, of the 6000 block of North Damen Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 6 p.m. on June 7 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police were dispatched to a report of poor driving in the southbound lanes of Skokie Valley Road. Officers also cited Baek for failure to yield to lights and sirens and improper lane usage.
Abdur-Razzaq A. Musaddiq, 49, of the 8700 block of West Dogwood Street, Milwaukee, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on June 12 after officers were dispatched to the scene of a traffic crash at the intersection of Half Day and Skokie Valley roads. Police said Musaddiq had been driving drunk with an illegal gun and a child in the car. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon, unlawful use of a weapon without a firearm owners identification card, driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering the life or health of a child. Officers also ticketed him for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
