Durbin Endorses Rotering in 10th District Primary

U.S. Senator backs Highland Park Mayor in bid to face Bob Dold in general election.

Democratic Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is backing Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering in the race to represent the state’s 10th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Nancy, a working mom and skilled attorney, has the courage, leadership and determination to return the 10th Congressional District to the Democratic fold,” Durbin said in a video released by Rotering’s campaign last week.

Rotering faces former Democratic U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider in the March primary. The winner will face incumbent Republican officeholder Bob Dold in November.

Durbin said Rotering combines fiscal responsibility with true progressive values.

“Nancy brings to this race an extraordinary record for a first-time Congressional candidate. As Mayor of Highland Park she successfully confronted ComEd when local families were suffering from unreliable service, balanced the City budget five consecutive years and enacted real reforms,” he said.

“Her most noteworthy achievement gained national attention when she passed one of the nation’s first local assault weapons ban and successfully defended the ordinance against an onslaught of gun lobby attacks all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
