Edgewood Won't Work As Middle School in New Model: Consultant
Two alternatives for middle school options that don't involve the school will be presented to North Shore District 112 board.

A traffic consultant has informed North Shore District 112 officials the Edgewood Middle School site would face some significant challenges in accommodating a middle school with some 1,000 students because of the existing road configuration.
With that in mind, the District’s school board will hear two alternatives for having a pair of middle schools that don’t involve Edgewood during their May 5 meeting.

One option would create two middle schools on the sites of Northwood Junior High and Red Oak Elementary schools, according to the Highland Park News. Another option calls for the construction of middle schools at Red Oak and Olson Park, a west Highland Park location in which the District currently owns half the land.
Edgewood would become an elementary school in the models.

Both models call for splitting kids in fifth through eighth grade among two middle schools in the district, rather than consolidating everyone at a single middle school campus in southwest Highland Park. A proposal that included one middle school campus was deferred before being voted on by the board earlier this year.
