Enjoy Sentimental Journey at Citadel Theatre.

Sentimental, indeed.

This is a show that has everything…wonderful music, a love story, humor, impressions, personal memories and a range of emotions. Featuring beloved Chicago actor Ross Lehman, he sings his way from his parents’ courtship at Penn State University all the way through WW 2 and its aftermath.

The audience goes back in time to when the world was at war and everything was uncertain. Ross’s father, also named Ross, served as an Air Force bombardier who flew 23 missions, but was caught by the Germans and held prisoner. His mother, Katey was a sophisticated career woman who waited patiently and hopefully for his return. Ironically, both of Lehman’s parents were writers and Ross shares their sentiments in the poignant letters they sent each other. After the war, they married and began their family life together with all of its joys and sorrows.

Lehman remarks that his parents would frequently “come to life upon hearing old songs”- so Lehman’s performance is accompanied by Chuck Larkin on the piano with such songs as “We'll Meet Again,” “Don't Fence Me In,” and the title song, “Sentimental Journey.” Keeping it all in the family, Ross’s granddaughter created the choreography.
