Willow Stream Park

You are invited to a very special service this coming Labor Day Weekend! 🎵On Sunday, September 6, at 10 am, we will gather at the Schlimmer Bandshell/Pavilion at Willow Stream Park in Buffalo Grove. We will have the U2 tribute band, Without U2, as special guests to lead our worship. Invite a friend and bring your own chair. The Welcoming and Connecting Team will provide hot dogs, chips, and drinks. We invite everyone to bring cookies to share! In case of rain, we will have the service at our Buffalo Grove campus (401 W Dundee Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL).

Discuss the state of American democracy in the United States—Join Lake Forest College professors Dr. Jim Marquardt, Dr. Alejandra Lopez Villegas, and Dr. Zachary Cook for this exciting new community engagement series.
The State of American Democracy
Registration deadline: Tuesday, September 1
Registration fee: $250 for the five-week series
Course times: Tuesday evenings, 6-8 p.m.
Course dates: September 8, September 15, September 22, October 6, October 13
Two College-wide lectures are associated with this series: <a href="https://advancement.lakeforest.edu/register/WorldNeedsLeaders" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">“The World Needs Leaders” with former U.S. Ambassador Jeff Flake</a> on September 23 and <a href="https://advancement.lakeforest.edu/register/?id=8935bb79-f62f-4326-bd92-0c1a4c32f0c4" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">“MLK and the Voting Rights Act” with Pulitzer Prize winning author Jonathan Eig</a> on September 28. All course participants are invited to attend as part of this series.
Held at the newly renovated Glen Rowan House, this series explores both the constraints on democracy—such as recent democratic backsliding, the Constitution’s roadblocks on majority rule, and the weakening of voting rights to name a few—and strategies to overcome them and enhance democracy in America. Each week will highlight a new topic and the opening and closing sessions will begin with a social reception featuring food and refreshments prior to class.
Both the educational content and social receptions will offer opportunities to build community, engage with College leadership, and learn more about ongoing campus initiatives.

The Ninth Annual Event for the GPF Foundation​ features a keynote appearance by Ryan Knutson​, Editor &amp; Co-Host of ​T​he Journal, the daily podcast from the Wall Street Journal​. ​Lake Forest's Larry Potash, WGN-TV, ​w​ill again be emcee. ​Funds raised support the GPF Foundation’s goal of “Saving Lives Through Awareness.”
Ryan Knutson is a co-host and senior news editor of “The Journal,” a daily podcast produced by the Wall Street Journal that explores the forces driving global events, markets and major companies. Previously he worked at PBS and ProPublica, building a reputation for sharp investigative reporting and clear, accessible storytelling. Just like the GPF Foundation, Ryan's work helps bring awareness and understanding about news and events that impact us all.
In addition to the cocktail party, seated meal and conviviality, guests at the Annual Event will also hear an update on GPF Foundation initiatives from Ross and Nancy Friedman, Board Chair and Director, respectively. Current activities include:

<ul><li>Continued progress on the Blind Spot, an educational video game that has moved into the third phase of development to explore commercial viability.</li><li>First-responder and health professional training and partnerships.</li><li>Development of a diagnostic scoring system for medical professionals.</li><li>On-going Harm Reduction training for at-risk communities.</li><li>The launch of an Associate Board made up of young adult volunteers to help spread awareness on harm reduction and the Foundation’s life-saving work. </li></ul>
