From Cage to 'Condo': The Monk Parakeets of Chicago

Escaped pet Monk Parakeets took up residence in Chicago's Hyde Park in 1973, and today they have 'bird condos' in multiple Chicagoland locations.  Stephen Pruett-Jones, a University of Chicago evolutionary biologist who has studied the species and the Hyde Park colony for over a decade, will explain the birds' history, habits, current distribution, and whether their reputation as pests is deserved. Field trip to see the Jackson Park colony will follow on May 25.

Hosted by Lake/Cook Chapter of Illinois Aubudon Society.
