Felony Domestic Battery Indictments; DUI Arrest: HP/HWD Blotters

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded than an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations by the state. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Paul Day, 38, of the 6800 block of Parnell Avenue in Chicago was arrested at 2:56 a.m. on June 23 and charged with driving under the influence after an officer noticed him asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle near the intersection of St. John's and Park Avenue.

Two 21-year-old Park City residents were arrested around 4 a.m. on June 24 and charged with excessive speeding and street racing after police noticed two vehicles speeding around the area of Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue.
Rafael Vasquez, 38, of the 900 block of Deerfield Road in Highland Park was indicted by a Lake County grand jury June 13 in connection with an incident that occurred around 10:35 p.m. on May 17 in Highwood. He was charged with aggravated domestic battery, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and two counts of domestic battery causing bodily harm. Vasquez allegedly struck a family member in the head with a beer bottle following an argument regarding the male relative's relationship with one of Vasquez's two girlfriends, other than his wife, according to police reports. Police found a large amount of blood and determined the incident took place just south of a bar in the 400 block of Lakeview Avenue and that everyone involved was highly intoxicated. Court records indicate Vasquez will have an opportunity to enter a plea June 27.

John M. May, 24, of the 300 block of Green Bay Road in Highwood, was indicted by a Lake Couty grand jury June 13 in connection with a report of a domestic battery that took place in the early morning hours of May 26. Police were contacted by a woman and her young daughter in front of the police station who reported being choked and beaten by May, who was charged with aggravated domestic battery and four counts of domestic battery. May pleaded not guilty and is set for trial on July 6, according to court records.
