The former District 108 board member was also part of a major donation to Highland Park Hospital.

A former local school board president who helped create integrated school environments decades ago and made quite an impact at Highland Park Hospital has died.

In the 1960s, Frank Lieber helped spearhead Wingspread, an exchange program in which students at local middle schools would spend five weeks at Wicker Park Upper Grade School on Chicago’s northwest side, while president of the District 108 school board. Lieber died on August 28 at his Highland Park residence, according to the Highland Park News.

“I remember as a participant feeling very fortunate having that type of exposure to an inner city school,” said Catherine Lieber Shimony, Lieber’s daughter.
