Fresh Sockeye Salmon on Overnight Airlift from Alaska at Sunset Foods' Copper River Tent Sale!

Straight from Bristol Bay in Cordova, Alaska, home to the largest sockeye salmon harvest in the world, comes an overnight shipment of whole salmon, direct to Sunset Foods—and to you—at their Whole Copper River Sockeye Salmon Tent Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 24 at all five Sunset Foods locations.

“We’ve acquired these exceptional whole fish so we can offer our customers all of the delicious and healthy benefits of wild sockeye salmon at deeply discounted prices,” said Sunset’s Director of Meat and Seafood Purchasing Dan Humphrey. “Of course, it’s at its best fresh, but it also can be frozen for those who want to stock up and enjoy wild salmon all summer long!”

At any of the five Sunset Foods locations, customers can get a taste of what it’s like at Seattle’s famed Pike Place Market, where fishmongers sling whole fish and fillet them to order, on the spot. Humphrey said the average fish in the shipment will weigh between four and six pounds and will be cut into fillets or steaks as requested at no additional cost. Purchase of a whole fish is required. Sunset Foods is located in Highland Park, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Long Grove and Northbrook.

The population of Northwest sockeye salmon has thrived in the unusually cold northern Pacific waters. Sockeye is an Anglicization of the Halkomelem word suk kegh, which means “red fish.”

Wild-caught Alaskan salmon are thought to be the healthiest variety of salmon available. Already touted by many health experts for their high concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids, newer studies are focusing on the benefits of their bioactive peptides. They may be responsible for supporting joint cartilage and even increasing insulin’s effectiveness.
