Highland Park Among Safest Cities in Nation
NeighborhoodScout study has city just outside of top 10 in Illinois.

Highland Park is one of the safest cities in Illinois and the United States according to a recent study conducted by NeighborhoodScout.
Taking in to account overall crime rate as reported by the FBI - including both violent and property crime - the state of Illinois surprisingly found itself with 19 municipalities ranked in the top 100 nationwide.
With an average of 11.2 crimes per 1,000 residents, Highland Park was rated as the 11th safest city in Illinois and finished 62nd in the nation.

The city just edged out Glenview for the safest North Shore community, with Glenview coming in at No. 12 in Illinois and 63rd in the country with an identical 11.2 final number.
The safest city in the United States, according to the study, is Zionsville, Indiana - with a crime rate of 2.6 per 1,000. Lake in the Hills was named safest in Illinois and second in the nation with data that showed a 3.8 rate.
