Highland Park Resident: 'Gender-neutral Bathrooms Are Steps in Right Direction'

Letter to the editor: Resident says city's signage plans will help make people comfortable with who they are.

The following letter to the editor was submitted by Highland Park resident Melissa Jimenez. Letters to the editor express the views and opinions of the writer and not of Patch.

Dear Tim Moran:

Thank you for your very informative article on the changes to the restrooms throughout the city of Highland Park. I believe adding gender-neutral bathrooms are steps in the right direction to accommodate every single human being. Although I am not sure every single person in Highland Park will agree with these changes, I definitely do. I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to be comfortable with who they are and for there to be a place for them. Just like there is for other human beings with more traditional personal views and preferences. Reading this article makes me proud to say I am a resident of Highland Park.
