Highland Park Taps Pioneer Spirit with Stupey Cabin Picnic & Fundraiser
Fourth Annual Event Co-Sponsored by the Park District of Highland Park, City, and the Public Library
Highland Park, IL – May 22, 2015 – The Highland Park Historical Society invites the community to celebrate our pioneer history and step back in time on June 6, 2015 from 11:00am – 4:00pm for the Fourth Annual Stupey Cabin Picnic and Fundraiser. The event marks the kickoff of a massive Stupey Cabin renovation project which will address structural degradation, interior deterioration, and restoration of the landscape surrounding the cabin.
The 1847 Stupey cabin is the oldest standing structure in Highland Park and is owned and maintained by the Historical Society. Francis Stupey and his Prussian immigrant family lived in the cabin and farmed the land before the area was incorporated as Highland Park. It was donated by the Exmoor Country Club and moved to its current site in 1968.
According to Historical Society President, Rob Rotering, “The picnic is both a fundraiser for preservation of the Stupey Cabin and a celebration of our town’s pioneer roots, in partnership with the City of Highland Park, the Park District and the Library.” Admission to the event is $10 per person or just $20 for the whole family. All donations will support this historic preservation effort.

The Highland Park historical Society has created a Facebook page for the restoration effort and a website at www.highlandparkhistory to raise both awareness of the project and the necessary. Engraved bricks and recognition on the cabin’s new signage are available to sponsors of the Stupey Cabin picnic.
